Around 1 in 7 of the population has a disability and may be unable to access websites and e-learning material unless they have been designed with accessibility in mind. If  disabled staff are unable to benefit equally from the same learning opportunities as other staff they may feel discriminated against - and that's against the law.

The Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) makes it unlawful for companies to discriminate against disabled people in the provision of goods and services and also requires employers to make reasonable adjustments to their systems to ensure that they can be accessed equally by all employees. The Special Educational Needs and Disability Act (SENDA) applies to organisations providing education services.

The Act can also apply to the websites, intranets and learning facilities in your organisation.

Are your training and development staff aware of their responsibilities for ensuring accessible learning?
Have they had appropriate training?
Do they know how to specify accessibility when purchasing content?
